Everything has advanced in the last 50 years at a quickening pace…electronics, cars, phones, homes, …etc, you name it and it has advanced. Funny thing though, many sales people have not advanced. They are still using what was taught years ago or worse, they have not advanced by choice. Lazy, by choice, not reading and not learning anything new.
Still backslapping, bagel bringing…and it can work for the simplest of sales…like selling toilet paper or any commodity…there is no real selling involved. Selling software or services or any sophisticated equipment requires advanced people skills and communication skills. These skills are learned through practice and mindfulness.
It’s called your EQ. Emotional Quotient. It’s not IQ…your IQ cannot be raised …your EQ can. It requires study and learning about “how you show up to others.” I have clients send what I call a 360 review to a boss, a mate, co workers and others. The result is the beginning of growing awareness and more effective communication.
I have worked with and coached people who had good results to begin with, and after doing the work, had amazing results, that surprised them.
They were not aware how much more they could achieve. That’s why I call the program “The Best Getting Better.”

The goal today in sales is this; help people buy. Effective sales people have the advanced skills to get to what I call an “Adult/Adult Conversation” about whether they are a fit for each other.

Are you still thinking “you can get one over on someone?” Or “I can sell ice to an Eskimo.” If so, you are the Model T of selling…and it’s ok…the new advanced ways are not for you anyway.
