Leading vs Managing; Leaders create a vision and managers manage the process to accomplish the vision.
Leaders stretch their teams out of “comfort zones” and sometimes managers have to be leaders as well. Both can be achieved.
Are you stretching your team? Comfort zones are a natural human inclination and often teams default into “what we have always done”.
Think about whether you are leading or managing?
What can you do that shifts you into the “leader” role?
Brainstorming sessions?
Questioning how we do things now and all assumptions about how?
Challenging your team with a vision that makes you uncomfortable as well?
Have this discussion with your team about both of these roles?
Perhaps someone you never considered has an idea that would change the process and change things.
Think about people that had big visions, did they actually manage the process or lead, driven by their vision, and people around them were inspired to achieve it?
Study leaders… here is an interesting infographic about both roles.
