How powerful is your thinking? There has been much written about the power of thought for thousands of years. Marcus Aurelius said, “You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength. He also said, “The Happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.” He lived from 121 – 180 AD. The Kabbalah also discussed the power of the mind, and that was over 4,000 years ago. Here’s a test that may help you prove or disprove this idea: Think about last week: How did it go? What was the thinking that created the week? What were the emotions you experienced? Were they on the list of primal emotions, such as anger, frustration, anxiety, stress, defeat, overwhelm, sadness, or depression? These emotions are associated with low-frequency, primal thinking. Thoughts like, “I am not enough, I never win, Nothing ever turns out good for me
Now think about what you would like to experience for the rest of this week. Here is a list of some of the high-frequency, powerful emotions:
• Courage
• Curiosity
• Creativity
• Ownership
• Purpose / the Soul’s work
• Innovation
• Clarity
• Trust
• Forward action
• Joy
• Present Moment Gratitude and surrender, add accomplishment, problem solving, stress-free, peaceful, and certain.
Prepare to experience these emotions by planning the thoughts associated with them. Picture yourself certain that things always work out, knowing there are only wins and learning, no losses. “Enthusiastic about living, telling yourself – This is a fantastic day, I wonder what life/God will bring my way?”
Neuroscience suggests that the one we spend more time in offers an ROI for the time invested. If your thinking is more invested in the low-frequency, primal thinking, you get a return of more anger, sadness, etc. If you spend more time in high-frequency, powerful thinking, you get more to be grateful for, peaceful, stress-free, and joyous about.
You can choose either by first noticing which one is your predominant mode. How about consciously choosing to spend more time in the powerful thinking? Every time I remember to tell my mind, “This is a fantastic day,: and choose to spend the day in the powerful thinking, the day is different. I feel accomplished, purposeful, certain that I can handle anything that comes my way. I am not deciding good or bad; I am just being fully present with whatever life/God brings my way. I choose to be grateful “In” things, until I can be grateful for them.
You have the power to choose. Don’t take my word for it; prove this concept to yourself and then you own it. What would your ROI be with the majority of your thinking focused on high-frequency, powerful thinking?
If this message bothers you, guess what’s taken over? Don’t let it run you; you run it.
Gratefully yours, Steve
