How complaints and grievances keep you stuck, and what to do when you catch that loop of thoughts in your head.
What we live in is called the Universe. Essentially, it is energy. We are energy. When we manage our energy in a positive and energizing way, our good things manifest more quickly.
Think of an electrical short circuit. Eventually, the circuit blows since the electricity cannot flow. You can learn to manage your energy by increasing the good that flows into your life. How do you increase the good?
1. Begin to notice all the complaints and grievances you have about other people and events in your life.
2. Are you telling others? Especially if you are not talking to the people involved and spreading gossip or your version of the events.
3. Can you control the people or events named? – If the answer is no, then your job is to let it go. Tell your brain, “Steve, let this go, you cannot control this, let it go.” Use your name to address your brain and refer to the research by Dr. Daniel Amen.
4. If you can control any situation, you take action. Have the conversation with the person or people who can address the complaint or grievance that is causing a loop in your mind. When you take action, you are eliminating the “short circuit,” or the complaint. Taking action is positive. Communicate with people close to you who engage in anything that does not energize you. When you communicate with others, you allow them the opportunity to change. If they are unwilling to change their negative behavior, proceed to step 5.
5. Think about what and who energizes you, your work, your co-workers, activities that you engage in, and events that inspire you. Stay engaged with people and things that energize you, and eliminate those that do not or remove yourself from them.
Create a list of the people and things that energize you, allowing you to make informed choices about how to invest your time every day. Notice how much energy you are investing in activities that do not energize you. Think about the “ROI” (Return On Investment) on both. Which ones make more sense to invest more time in?
